Hardware Highlight: Framework announces Marketplace

Framework is back with more exciting news! If you missed any of the previous posts about them, we discussed some of what they are trying to accomplish – namely modularity and repairability. They launched their new laptops a few months ago on a per-order basis, allowing buyers to choose some of the internals, ports (through modular parts), as well as whether they wanted to build their laptop via the DIY program. Framework has shaped up, so far, to being a fantastic technology company who is delivering exactly what most consumers want out of a laptop. We have been confident in Framework since launch – we have a couple of these in use at Nottingham Nerds – and we have sold a few to some of our customers. They are just the right answer if you need a good Ultrabook style laptop that you don't want to have to ship out for repairs should anything happen to it – yes we mean anything. From day one, Framework has said that they were going to launch a marketplace that would have every single part that makes up the Framework Laptop for sale (and at a fair price). Most OEMs either won't sell you parts, sell them at an absolutely unreasonable price, or refuse to allow you to repair your own property (ahem Apple, Microsoft, and others) by either threatening the loss of warranty or refusing to support the product afterwards (and they can usually tell because they put stickers over the external screws). Framework on the other hand is coming from the opposite approach – they want you to fix your own laptop, and every single thing they have put on their marketplace (including screens, keyboards, batteries, RAM, storage, camera modules, WiFi modules, the main board – everything!

Another super exciting thing – we wrote about Linus Tech Tips recently moving over to Linux because Windows 11 is turning out to be a complete dumpster fire, leaving consumers in the dust and forcing them to use online-based accounts, buy new computers due to TPM 2 requirements, and even slowing computers down by up to 30%. Linus also put out a video recently stating that he hadn't bought a laptop for himself in 16 years, but as soon as he reviewed the Framework laptop – he bought one instantly. Within a few short weeks, Linus invested nearly a quarter million dollars into Framework because he believes in them so much and wants to help them have the best footing they can! Go Linus!

If you want to check out Framework laptops, do so here. Linus' YouTube channel is here. If you want to go see what the Framework Marketplace has, check it out here. They really have every part that goes into this laptop, and everything is generously priced.

Nottingham Nerds has been selling some of these laptops, so if you're interested in one of these modular and repairable laptops – we are customizing these to order and putting Pop!_OS on them (naturally)! Since we're NH local, if you ever need any assistance with software, hardware, or repairs – this is an awesome laptop to get. Instead of charging multiple hours to repair things because laptops usually take forever to take apart and put back together, most things will take less than 30 minutes to fix on this laptop – saving us time and you both time and money!
