Software Spotlight: Apps for Gnome
Gnome has recently released "Apps for Gnome" – a new web portal to showcase applications that are curated by Gnome and include applications which are built with the Gnome philosophy in mind. They are intuitive, simple to use, and feature a consistent and polished design. All of the applications listed in the new web portal are free (as in freedom) software and will integrate perfectly with anyone running the Gnome desktop.
The three main sections of the portal are:
- Core Apps - contain typical or ordinary tasks and often come pre-installed
- Circle Apps - contain applications which are meant to extend the Gnome ecosystem and provide extra tools for Gnome users to utilize
- Development Apps - contain a set of apps that help developers develop and design new applications as well as make it easier to contribute to existing ones
There are so many great applications listed within this portal that we had to talk about it – we are even seeing some great applications we've never used before in here including Tootle which is a lightning fast client for Mastodon (we covered Mastodon in another article just last week). We also joined Mastodon recently, check us out!
For those wondering how you can get your hands on some of these great applications, you can check out the Apps portal and click on any of the apps – there's an option to get the Flatpak version directly on each application webpage – these work on any operating system with Flatpak installed (woo universal apps!). You can also check these out in your operating system's app store if you want to get them there!
