We are open!

We are open!

We are so excited to announce that we are open for business! We have been working hard to ensure we bring the best products and services to our customers. We have made some partnerships with well known hardware vendors that support Linux and Open-Source software. We are working diligently to find the best open-source software to share with our customers. Some of these can be self-hosted and we will have options for installation & configuration of these services for those interested in such services, but many of these pieces of software can be found in the Software/App store in your operating system (default Pop!_OS/ Ubuntu 20.04). We plan on creating blog posts of the most useful/awesome software we can find - hopefully on a weekly (minimum) basis!

Our products, services, and the software we currently offer are located on our website at https://www.nottinghamnerds.com, but we will list some of those here as well!

Hardware - currently we are offering a plethora of Linux-based hardware including mini-desktops, laptops, and Raspbery Pi SBCs. We will be adding mechanical keyboards, mice, and Network Area Storage (NAS) devices soon.

Services - currently we offer home networking setup & configuration, network-wide ad-blocking services, self-hosted software installation and configuration, privacy-centric (self-hosted) smart-home integration services, and backup/restore solutions.

Software - currently we offer setup and configuration of the following software services:

  • ProtonVPN
  • Jellyfin
  • Nextcloud
  • Volumio
  • Home Assistant
  • Ad-blocking
  • Web-based Photo Gallery

We also offer consulting services for those who are interested in learning about how they can protect themselves, their data, and their privacy while using their technology. These services include:

  • Securing online accounts
  • Creating and storing secure passwords
  • Using secure e-mail, VPN services, and end-to-end encryption for communication applications
  • Understanding federated services
  • Checking e-mail accounts against known breaches/hacks
  • Privacy practices for browsing the internet
  • Importance of disk encryption
  • Importance of open-source software/ideals and why we use them

Lastly, we have a new documentation section on our website. We are adding content as necessary, but decided to start with a new users section to ensure you hit the ground running (for those that buy a mini-desktop or laptop running Pop!_OS/Ubuntu).
